What I've found the trick to be is to adjust each guitar's pickups to work best with that natural channel. I have had an EQ pedal to use with it in the past, but I don't like to use one. Overall I'd say the Rocker is louder than the Princeton. If you were going with the Rocker 15 Terror and a 1x12 I'd go with a high efficiency speaker if you want clean volume & lots of bass and them maximize the power setting you're using. My Princeton has a 97db Efficiency rated Celestion, the Rocker 15 has the 101db efficiency "Voice of the World Gold" which is also supposedly a Celestion that's rebranded. Right now the other amp I have is a 1x12 65 PRRI. it has less sag than say Fender amps, so the bass is more present and in your face. I think the Rocker 15 gives the appearance of tighter bass & more bass than you'd expect because it has a fast attack. It will growl by noon on the volume knob if you hit humbuckers hard. But with humbuckers you need to keep that dial lower. By the time you get to noon it is compressing and pushing the midrange on a single coil guitar in a way that makes them seem less bright, but still clean. It's very sparkly clean up to about 9-10 for me with single coils. For clean you want to start at max power and bring the volume on the natural channel up only as much as you need to. You absolutely want it on 15w if you're playing with others at a rehearsal volume. As for the amp's effects loop, Orange have opted to keep the signal path all-valve to preserve the amp's tonal integrity.I've had the Rocker 15 Combo for about 5 years now and have used it with a bunch of guitars.īass & Treble both seem to come up as you increase the power levels. The chassis-mounted switchgear is secured to the classic Terror series enclosure. Like Orange's latest flagship valve amp heads, this Terror does away with plastic connector blocks and ribbon cables in favour of hand-soldered flying leads. For the best possible tone and durability, this Terror uses the same proprietary transformers found in all of their iconic Terror Series (excluding the Dual Terror). (Optional FS-1 footswitch sold separately).Īt Orange, they expect their amps to work for a living. It too can be set on the cleaner side as a second rhythm sound, or dialled for various flavours of British grit for leads. The Dirty channel has a more traditional look with Gain, Master Volume and a three band EQ. Quite literally, you get out what you put in. Cleaner settings produce clear, glistening tones whilst cranking the volume reveals a bluesy crunch that loves to be kicked harder with boost and overdrive pedals. Single coils ring out with true clarity and humbuckers sing with woody overtones. The Natural channel features just one control for volume and is voiced for absolute transparency. If you've ever wondered what your guitars or your pedals actually sounded like, the Rocker Series amps are a joy to play. So, whether you need a rig for low-volume practising, recording, or to be heard on the club circuit, the shape-shifting Rocker 15 Terror will show itself to be the amp for every occasion. The amp also features a proper, valve driven effects loop for total purity from input to output. Both channels are very sensitive to touch and playing dynamics, making the Rocker 15 Terror very versatile despite its straightforward, player-friendly layout. The Dirty channel is a more familiar affair with controls for Gain, Volume and a three band EQ section. Finely balanced and supremely playable, this channel is perfectly voiced to bring out the natural sound of the instrument under your fingers (or the pedals under your feet). The Natural channel is a purist's dream with just a single knob: Volume. Even when scaling back the power, the amp's tone stays fat and full, oozing warm valve compression and saturation without disturbing the neighbours.Ĭlever options aside, the Rocker 15 Terror has real character - a twin channel design with a twist. Thanks to the same beefy transformers as the combo version, the Rocker 15 Terror has a remarkably potent delivery which takes full advantage of its EL84 output section. With the Rocker 15 Terror set wide open, smaller venues are comfortably taken care of. Finally, a small, two channel, bedroom-friendly all-valve amp that you can legitimately gig! FROM BEDROOM TO HEADROOM | TWIN CHANNEL | ICONIC TERROR STYLINGĬapable of 15, 7, 1 or 0.5 Watts of output, the Rocker 15 Terror is the head-only version of the enormously popular Rocker 15 Combo that moves seamlessly from the home, to the studio, to the stage.
